Senior Director of Development
Job Type: Full Time
Location: Washington, D.C.
Reports to: Chief Operating Officer
The Save Darfur Coalition, an advocacy organization dedicated to ending the genocide in Darfur, is seeking a Senior Director of Development.
Founded in 2004, the coalition is an alliance of more than 180 faith-based, advocacy and human rights organizations whose activists include over 1,000 community groups and a one-million person e-activist list, and that has strong links to activists in a wide range of countries. It works to raise public awareness and mobilize an effective response to the genocide in Darfur.
Responsibilities:
- Planning and leading a comprehensive $8 million annual campaign to support the work of the coalition. This will include maintaining and broadening an extensive e-philanthropy campaign; integrating the use of direct marketing in the annual campaign; creating and producing fundraising materials and overseeing the writing of grants.
- Maintenance and expansion of an already significant database.
- Manage, identify, and deepen relationships with current donors, as well as identify, cultivate and solicit new gifts. Special attention will be needed to create a comprehensive major gifts program, and to significantly increase the number of foundation grants.
- Be a member of the coalition’s senior management team.
- Oversee a small staff, as well as a team of outside fundraising consultants.
Requirements:
- Between 8 and 10 years of multi-faceted development experience, and demonstrated successes.
- Ability to establish and nurture excellent interpersonal relationships.
- The capability to work with donors, colleagues and board members.
- Be a self-starter and independent.
- Possess excellent communication and organizational skills.
- A Bachelor’s degree is required, while a Master’s degree is preferred.
- Experience with other non-profit organizations, particularly those which are involved with international advocacy, is preferred.

Senior Director of Administration & Finance

The Save Darfur Coalition, http://www.SaveDarfur.org, an alliance of 181 human rights, faith-based, and civil society organizations working to raise public awareness and mobilize an effective response to the genocide in Darfur, seeks a Director of Administration & Finance.
A new position created in response to organizational growth, the Senior Director of Administration & Finance will be a key member of the senior management team and play an integral role in managing administrative and financial functions as well as building systems and processes to ensure that Save Darfur has the organizational capacity to have maximum impact. Able to participate strategically and execute tactically, the Director of Administration and Finance will be responsible for financial management, personnel policies, payroll, human resources, information technology and facilities management. The ideal candidate will be a creative problem-solver and a strategic and organized thinker.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage operations, merchandise and finance staff (4 people) and consultants. Direct accounting firm that manages day-to-day accounting procedures as well as annual audit and tax filings.
- Participate in the development of overall organizational strategic plan, contributing expertise and information within Administration and Finance responsibility areas.
- Create, recommend and implement strategic and operational plans; articulate Administration & Finance goals, ensuring consistency with organizational plans and objectives.
- Develop and implement operating policies and procedures governing Administration & Finance operations. Monitor and assess effectiveness of policies; review and enhance as needed.
- Formulate, recommend and implement the financial policies and procedures, including accounting, internal controls, financial reporting, budget development and administration.
- Plan, control, administer and direct all human resources functions including recruitment/employment, compensation, benefits, and employee relations; monitor and enforce compliance with all applicable city and federal regulations and statutes.
- Develop and recommend annual operating budgets. Maintain documentation of all financial transactions.
- Serve as liaison with Board of Directors Finance Committee.
Requirements:
We welcome candidates with a background specifically in administration and finance for non-profit organizations. Key qualifications and experience include:
- Minimum of 7 years experience in nonprofit administration and/or finance.
- Master’s Degree in Business or Public Administration or related field, or completion of CPA certification, or equivalent experience, preferred.
- Excellent communication skills including oral, written, and interpersonal.
- Strong leadership and team-building skills.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects.
- Demonstrated success working in a campaign environment and ability to work with flexibility, congeniality and a sense of humor.
- Commitment to the mission of the coalition; knowledge of the ongoing crisis in Darfur, Sudan.

Internships
Job Type: Full Time
Location: Washington, D.C.
Report to: Operations Manager
The Save Darfur Coalition seeks enthusiastic, dedicated interns. Interns will work closely with the Coalition's staff to fulfill both administrative and programmatic duties. Internships will be focused on international outreach and domestic organizing, policy, campaigns or media relations. Interns will be unpaid but may receive college credit, if applicable. Interns are expected to dedicate between 20 and 35 hours per week to SDC.
Requirements:
- Passion for the work of the Save Darfur Coalition;
- Ability to work independently and take initiative when required;
- Diplomatic and professional communication skills required;
- Strong organizational and time management skills required;
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook with internet research skills also required. Strong IT skills desirable.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interact professionally within a diverse community, and
- Foreign language skills and international experience preferred, but not necessary.
