Full-Time Employment
Position: Media Relations Manager Job Type: Full Time Location: Washington, D.C. Reports to: Senior Director of Communications
The Save Darfur Coalition, www.SaveDarfur.org, a Washington D.C. based advocacy organization dedicated to ending the genocide in Darfur, is seeking a Media Relations Manager.
The Media Relations Manager will have the unique opportunity to advance the movement to end the genocide in Darfur by helping the Save Darfur Coalition and the constituency of conscience it serves to expand its influence and recognition among the media and public. The Media Relations Manager will have primary responsibility for executing a media relations strategy and will work closely with the Senior Director of Communications to identify opportunities to educate the media about the organization and its efforts and will maintain relationships with key US and international media.
Responsibilities:
Working within the framework of the organization's integrated work plan and in close collaboration with other staff -- plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate media relations;
Pitch stories and interviews, handle rapid response to media inquiries and maintain regular contact with key media;
Write communication materials including press releases, talking points, opinion editorials, blog posts and other materials;
Manage media databases;
Track and distribute daily news clips.
Requirements:
Four-year college degree, with at least 2 years of experience as a communicator for issues, causes, people/candidates or corporations;
Strong background in traditional media outreach and advocacy communications for issues, people/candidates or causes;
Experience with web 2.0 technology and demonstrated success utilizing new media strategies;
Strong writing skills and experience writing press releases, press materials and op-eds;
Commitment to the mission of the coalition and knowledge of the ongoing crisis in Darfur, Sudan;
Work with international organizations or campaigns a plus.

Position: Outreach Associate Job Type: Full Time Location: Washington, D.C. Reports to: Outreach and Coalition Relations Manager and Senior director of Campaign Advocacy
The Save Darfur Coalition is seeking a full-time Outreach Associate. Main responsibilities are to assist in the development and implementation of systems, activities and events to help Save Darfur Coalition staff more effectively engage with our 180 coalition member organizations.
Facilitate coalition partner organization's participation in our priority campaigns and events. This will include facilitating sign on letters, conference calls, email communication, materials distribution.
Assist with the development of Save Darfur Coalition's Interfaith Initiative, including scheduling and attending meetings and events, contributing to plan development and implementation
Maintain and update the official list of coalition members; shepherd new members through the process of joining the coalition
Maintain coalition database, create relevant queries and reports to segment data as needed
Support the organization of coalition events, including meetings with coalition partners
Provide occasional reports on the status of coalition member organizations
Create and maintain plans for outreach and collaboration with partners segmented according to type
Supervise Outreach Intern on a variety of tasks
Liaison with select subgroups of partner organizations
Work with technology platforms including Blue State Digital and GoToMeeting

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree with minimum of 1-3 years relevant work experience or equivalent
Excellent writing skills; proven ability to write clearly, concisely, and create materials on deadline
Highly developed administrative skills and ability to stay organized in a fast paced, professional office environment.
Database management experience
Experience working on projects where you had to keep big picture in focus but also manage details
Excellent interpersonal skills, sense of humor, cooperative/team spirit, track record of team leadership and team membership.
Cultural proficiency in a diverse environment
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Ability to manage projects independently or in coordination with others as needed
Tech savvy
Willingness to work long hours, evenings and weekends on occasion for special events

Position: Online Communications Associate Job Type: Full Time Location: Washington, D.C.
The Save Darfur Coalition, http://www.SaveDarfur.org, a Washington D.C. based advocacy organization dedicated to ending the genocide in Darfur, is seeking an Online Communications Associate.
The Online Communications Associate will work alongside the Online Communications Director to manage the Coalition's website and to implement and expand an online strategy that draws traffic to the web site, build our e-mail list, and expands our presence on blogs and social networks.
Responsibilities:
Manage and maintain technology needed for all aspects of the Coalition's online presence and communication
Work with technical and strategic consultants to maintain online content
Work with Online Communications Director to plan and create new web site content, as needed
Post all content on web site and manage all site updates and link verification
Assist in the creation and management of online initiatives including campaigns, online advertising, and online/offline grassroots strategies with the purpose of building email lists and strengthening supporter-staff relationships for advocacy and fundraising
Facilitate messaging of members and activists for grassroots organizing and local events
Respond to member emails, technical questions, and web inquiries, including inquiries through Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube
Assist in updating social networks regularly, including building member/follower lists, posting the latest actions and information from SDC, sharing news, and developing relationships with supporters
Additional Duties as assigned
Requirements:
A college degree and 1-2 years of relevant work experience
Mastery of HTML and CSS and experience with design software such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop is required. Experience with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Wordpress, PHP and MySQL is a plus
Understanding of and experience with various web technologies such as blogs, social networking and social bookmarking applications
Strong written and oral communication skills
Experience with Blue State Digital or other CMS is a plus
Ability to think creatively and identify opportunities for growth in new media
Comfortable working in a fast-paced campaign environment

Internships
Job Type: Full Time Location: Washington, D.C. Report to: Operations Manager
The Save Darfur Coalition seeks enthusiastic, dedicated interns. Interns will work closely with the Coalition's staff to fulfill both administrative and programmatic duties. Internships will be focused on international outreach and domestic organizing, policy, campaigns or media relations. Interns will be unpaid but may receive college credit, if applicable. Interns are expected to dedicate between 20 and 35 hours per week to SDC.

Diplomatic and professional communication skills required;
Strong organizational and time management skills required;
Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook with internet research skills also required. Strong IT skills desirable.

Foreign language skills and international experience preferred, but not necessary.
