Millions of civilians are at immediate risk of starvation and disease. In addition, Bashir is now calling for the removal of all foreign aid groups within one year.
In this time of crisis Save Darfur's voice — your voice — has never been more important.
One important way you can make a difference is by calling the White House to ask President Obama to engage personally in the effort to restore humanitarian access and promote peace. President Obama has taken a good first step in appointing retired Air Force Major General J. Scott Gration to serve as his envoy to Sudan, but now they must work together in an urgent and sustained diplomatic push - involving China and key African and Arab countries - to establish unimpeded humanitarian access, hold President Bashir accountable for meeting Sudan's obligation under international law to protect the lives of Sudanese civilians, and move toward lasting peace.
Call the White House today at 202-456-1111 and ask President Obama to demand that the Sudanese government allow access to humanitarian aid. Tell President Obama we must bring an end to the genocide under his watch and that you expect his administration to support the ICC's quest for justice for the Darfuri people.
"Hello, my name is (YOUR NAME) and I'm from (YOUR CITY, YOUR STATE). I'm calling to ask President Obama to continue his efforts to address the violence in Darfur. I want to thank him for appointing General J. Scott Gration to be his envoy to Sudan, and let him know that direct Presidential engagement and U.S. leadership are more vital than ever.
"President Obama must use his stature and influence with foreign leaders to isolate the Bashir regime and create an international consensus that expelling humanitarian aid groups and orchestrating attacks on civilians, peacekeepers and aid workers are unacceptable and will not be tolerated. I ask President Obama to personally engage in diplomatic efforts to promote peace in Sudan. Thank you."
