Darfur Week at BPHS: April 16-20, 2007
Thank you for visiting Bethel Park High School's Dollars for Darfur page.
With your help, we can make a difference for the people of Darfur. Each day in Darfur, hundreds of people are raped, starved and murdered by the Sudanese armed forces and a Sudanese government-backed militia known as the Janjaweed. At least 400,000 people have died and more than 2 million Darfurians have been left homeless. The United Nations Security Council authorized that peacekeepers be deployed to Darfur, but the Sudanese government has not yet allowed them entry. Meanwhile, the calculated campaign of displacement, starvation, rape, and mass slaughter continues.
We realize that because we have the ability to help these people, we also have the responsibility. That's why we are holding a week of fundraising and awareness at Bethel Park from April 16-20, 2007. We'll be selling t-shirts, hearing some amazing speakers, and signing petitions to send to President Bush. Our goal in this is not only to raise funds for the Darfur region, but to spread awareness about the horrors occurring there. All the money raised that week will go to our Dollars for Darfur account.
In addition, there will be a walk for Darfur on Sunday, April 22 at 1:30 pm. It will begin at Peters Creek Presbyterian Church and proceed onto the Arrowhead Trail. Everyone is welcome--we are gathering together to show the people of Darfur that they have not been forgotten.
If you are unable to attend these events, you can donate to our cause directly through this page. Also, please feel free to forward this site to others you know who want to help the situation. Thank you so much in advance for all that you do!
