Krieger Schechter Day School

PeaceOut, the Darfur advocacy group at Krieger Schechter was started over a year ago and has raised more than $5000 dollars for the Save Darfur Coalition and the American Jewish World Service. Its existence is largely due to the Holocaust which prompted the students of KSDS to take action.

Victoria, a student and member of PeaceOut, has been selling creative pins and pin-making kits, and has already made almost $1000! She is donating the money to this page. Drew, another member of PeaceOut, has been selling soda and candy at school basketball games. Both projects are going very well, and their hard work is paying off! Most recently, PeaceOut organized a "fun-day" for middle school students to attend that included a Darfur bingo which taught kids about the crisis, snacks, sports, and Sudanese face painting.

With your help, we can make a difference for the people of Darfur. Each day in Darfur, hundreds of people are raped, starved and murdered by the Sudanese armed forces and a Sudanese government-backed militia known as the Janjaweed. At least 400,000 people have died and more than 2 million Darfurians have been left homeless. The United Nations Security Council authorized that peacekeepers be deployed to Darfur, but the Sudanese government has not yet allowed them entry. Meanwhile, the calculated campaign of displacement, starvation, rape, and mass slaughter continues.

Dollars for Darfur is a national school competition to raise funds to help end the genocide in Sudan. Our school is competing with other institutions across the country to show our concern about this issue.

We, Middle school students, can make a difference. There are over eleven million middle school students in the United States. If each student raised a small amount the effect would be enormous. Donating through this website is simple, fast and completely secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts. All funds raised will go directly to the Save Darfur Coalition, a non-profit charity.
