Shepherd Hill Regional High School

Save Darfur Group

March 7th, 2008   Dodge for Darfur was extremely successful exceeding expectations.  We started with an informational video of Darfur and then the dodgeball rules in the auditorium.  Prior to this we did team pictures of our 24 teams participating.

Monies were raised from player entry fees, door sales, and concessions.  A portion will be donated to Save Darfur and a portion to Francis Bok of IAbolish.  Over 600 people attended.

We made tie dye shirts with the logo shown to advertise the event and the shirts were worn by all the refs and students running the event.  Local newspapers attended as well as town officials(fire chief, police chiefs, selectmen)

Supplements to educate on genocide include table tents during lunch, ribbon tying on car antennas.  We will show the video again on the morning tv show.  We will also be doing some movie nights to show Hotel Rwanda and The Devil Came on Horseback.

We hope to raise more money and increase our activities through our newly formed Save Darfur group.

Francis Bok visited the school on April 9th.

April 15th- We will be attending the Voice's from Darfur event held at Harvard University.

April 29th Dodge for Darfur Talent Show

Thank you for visiting our high school’s Dollars for Darfur page.

With your help, we can make a difference for the people of Darfur. Hundreds of people are being raped, starved and murdered by the Sudanese armed forces and a Sudanese government-backed militia known as the Janjaweed. As many as 400,000 people have died and more than 2 million Darfurians have been left homeless. The United Nations Security Council authorized a peacekeeping force for Darfur, but the Sudanese government is continuously blocking its full deployment. Meanwhile, the calculated campaign of displacement, starvation, rape, and mass slaughter continues.

Dollars for Darfur is a national school competition to raise funds to help end the genocide in Sudan. Our school is competing with other schools across the country to show our concern about this issue.

High school students can make a difference. There are over 27,000 high schools in the United States. If each school raised just $50, we could raise more than one million dollars. Donating through this website is simple, fast and completely secure. It is also the most efficient way to support our fundraising efforts. Half the funds raised will go to support the advocacy efforts of the Save Darfur Coalition. The other half will be divided between the International Rescue Committee and Oxfam America.

Many thanks for your support -- and don't forget to forward this to anyone who you think might also wish to donate.
