October 15th Divestment Event: Franklin Templeton San Francisco Bay Area Headquarters

New activist recruit at Franklin Templeton campus protest on October 15

Event organizer Martina Knee sent this photo from the San Francisco Bay Area October 15th events. On this day of action for divestment from companies doing business with Darfur around the country and in the Bay Area, activists participated in two protests. At noon, there was a protest outside Franklin Templeton headquarters, which has over a billion dollars invested in PetroChina. And then in the evening activists and volunteers spread awareness and collected signatures on petitions near the Montgomery BART station where Divest for Darfur Ads were up during the month of October.

October 15th Divestment Event: JP Morgan Chase Chicago Headquarters

According to event organizer Sean Tenner:

After some brief remarks from Rep. Harris and Sen. Collins, both legislators joined Mohamed Abdelrhman Kauda, President of the Darfur Association of Illinois, and Reverend Michael Pfleger (a well known Chicago faith leader) in presenting the petition to Dan Sprehe, head of Government Relations for JP Morgan Chase, who had come outside to accept them.

Mr. Sprehe walked into the center of the protestors’ circle, as CNN and other cameras were rolling, accepted the box of petitions and talked with Sen. Collins, Rep. Harris, Mohamed and Father Pfleger.  The event received significant media coverage. Save Darfur and JP Morgan Chase are now engaging in a dialogue about the PetroChina divestment issue.
