Didn't Fidelity already divest? See our Fidelity update.
Dear Fidelity Employee,
We know you personally do not support the genocide in Darfur or want to profit from the suffering of others.
The success of our work to end the genocide in Darfur is dependent in part on people like you, people with good hearts who want to do the right thing.
We have targeted it because Fidelity is a major shareholder in PetroChina, a Chinese oil company that through its parent company is considered to be one of the worst offenders in helping to fund the genocide in Darfur. China is the largest purchaser of Sudan’s oil and an estimated 70 percent of Sudan’s oil profits go to the Sudanese military, which is responsible for the genocide in Darfur.
Since the genocide began, as many as 400,000 men, women, and children have died as a result of the Sudanese government’s brutal campaign.
We are calling on Fidelity to divest from PetroChina and other companies that fund the genocide in Darfur.
Here are three things you can do:
- Educate yourself. Learn how Fidelity’s investments are connected with the genocide in Darfur. Please review this site and that of our partner organization. A good place to start is our FAQs.
- Work from the inside. Let Fidelity management know that you don’t want Fidelity to continue investing in companies that help fund the genocide in Darfur. Talk with other employees, and do what you can together to make sure your company represents the values that are important to you.
- Talk to us. Let us know what you think of the campaign and how you want to be involved. (Please use your personal email address if you don’t want to get a response at your Fidelity email address.) You can reach us at divest@savedarfur.org.
Thank you for your commitment to helping Fidelity become a better place to work. You are a key partner in helping end the genocide in Darfur.
Sincerely,
Zahara Heckscher
