April's School of the Month
The School of the Month for April is James Monroe High School of North Hills, California!
The Global Club at James Monroe High has raised $1,000 for Darfur and brought their entire school community into their efforts. The group organized a “Jog-a-thon for Darfur”, with sponsors contributing a certain amount for each lap jogged by a Global Club member.
Both students and faculty members participated in “Shoot Hoops for Darfur”, a basketball game that raised awareness by distributing informational brochures to audience members.
The Global Club also arranged a “Free Darfurian Lunch” for their school: the meal consisted of bread and water, and a club member played the United Nations giving out limited amounts of a special food (represented by chocolate candy).
Finally, club members wrote letters to Congressman Howard L. Berman expressing their concern for Darfur and desire for United States action. They continue to raise awareness for Darfur and promote a better understanding of genocide in their school community.
