January’s School of the Month
January’s School of the Month is Everton High School of Everton, Missouri!
Everton High’s Student Council raised in one semester twice as much as they expected to raise in the entire academic year!
Their main fundraiser was a 24-hour vigil for victims of the genocide. Before the vigil, students spread the word by speaking at churches and civic organizations. They sent press releases to local media a month before the event and followed up with phone calls. As a result, a local public radio station aired an interview with the Student Council president a few days before the event, increasing attendance at the vigil.
This semester, the Student Council is engaging other schools in the Springfield area and might partner with a local saddle club for a trail ride to benefit Darfur.
