The Olympic Torch in San Francisco

The Official Torch Relay for the Beijing Games started in Athens, Greece on March 24. It will make its way to London and Paris and arrive in San Francisco, its only U.S. stop, on April 9, 2008.

The Save Darfur Coalition and the San Francisco Bay Area Darfur Coalition invite activists from around the U.S. to join us in San Francisco to help highlight the role that China must play to end the genocide in Darfur.

What: Darfur Day of Action: Carry the Olympic Torch to Darfur
A major visibility event to target to pressure China on Darfur

When: April 9th, 2008, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or any time in between! The first 1,000 people get a free Darfur T-shirt or hat.

Where: We will meet at 11 a.m. at either of two locations:

  • Corner of 3rd and Townsend Streets. (see map), near AT&T Park, for the start of the relay. (2-3 miles of walking.) We will then follow the torch on the route.
  • One Maritime Plaza, on Clay Street near Embarcadero Bart, to help us line the torch route. (Less walking.) We will also be there for the end of the relay.

SF Activists: Bring the Darfur insert sign from this Friday’s Chronicle, and put it up in your window before the event! Wear green on Wednesday to show support.
