Organize a Group Trip to San Francisco

Step 1: Find a bus

  • Find a bus company and ask to reserve a bus for April 9. We recommend doing this as early as possible.

  • Put down a deposit for the bus when needed (sometimes, bus companies are willing to wait for a deposit).

  • Ask for donations from your group. Divide the cost of the bus by the number of possible riders.  We suggest that you add $30 to the cost of the bus to pay for parking. (We will have parking information for you soon).

  • Confirm the number of riders as early possible.  We suggest that you consider a seat confirmed once someone has paid for the cost of the trip.

Step 2: Post your trip online

Take the following steps to post your travel information online so others in your area can find you, join you, and help diffuse the costs of travel.

  • Use our events tool to:
    • Invite people to sign up to travel with you.
    • Contact people who have RSVPed, either individually or as a group.
    • Ask people to pledge to help cover travel costs.
    • Recruit volunteers to help out with the planning.
    • Set a maximum number of people who can RSVP (no standing room on the bus!)
    • Download a list of attendees who have RSVPed-- along with how many people they are bringing.

Step 3: Invite others to join you

  • Join nearby Darfur groups by visiting www.savedarfur.org/groups and typing in your zipcode. Tell members of those groups that you are organizing travel to San Francisco

  • Use the group's listserv to communicate with the group.
You can find the group's listserv address by taking the following steps:
    • Log in at www.savedarfur.org/login.
    • Click on "Dashboard" near the top right of the screen
    • In the right column, under My Groups, click on the group's name
    • On the following page, look for Listserv in the right column. Here you will find an email address you can use to contact everyone in the group.
    • Ask people on the listserv to RSVP to your trip and go with you to San Francisco!
