Divestment Legislation: Federal
On December 31, 2007 the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act of 2007 (SADA) became law. SADA is vital legislation that protects the states’ and investment firms’ rights to divest from companies with connections to the government of Sudan. SADA also prohibits federal contracts with such companies.

Divestment Legislation: State
The state divestment movement is gathering steam across the country. The movement is led by our partner, the Sudan Divestment Task Force. A great place to start is by clicking on the interactive map, or using the drop down features of their special state-by-state organizing tool. You can also contact state officials about divestment at the web site of our partner, the American Jewish World Service.

The state contract prohibition movement has begun to gain momentum after the passage of the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act of 2007. The legislation prohibits high offending companies from receiving federal government contracts and authorizes states to do the same. States have begun to pass contract prohibition legislation in 2008.
Additional Campaigns
In addition to advocacy on the five target investment firms, the Save Darfur Coalition supports our partners’ work on other campaigns as well.
