Independence for Darfur
This group started January 1, 2007 to act as an advocate to end genocide in Darfur. Members will make a personal contribution to the SaveDarfur Coalition, will advocate locally, nationally and internationally to end the genocide in Darfur, will raise funds to support the work of the SaveDarfur Coalition, and will encourage others to join us. We will say NEVER AGAIN and act as if we mean it.
Independence is known worldwide as the home of Harry Truman. This legacy of our city seems to me to imply that people living in and around Independence should carry a special responsibility to speak out for peace and justice in our world. Just as President Truman recognized Israel in 1948 partially in reaction to the holocaust perpetrated by the Nazi's, we, the citizens of the Independence area should speak out to our world and denounce the genocide taking place in Darfur. We owe it to "Harry", to our country, to the world, and to ourselves. What will you say to your children and grandchildren
